Celebrating Geof Mansfield: 50 Years of Dedicated Service to Newcastle

today10 July 2024

Background

In a heartwarming celebration, Geof Mansfield was recently honored for his remarkable 50 years of service to the City of Newcastle. Starting his career as a draftsman cadet in the winter of 1974, not long after the iconic Sygna shipwreck on Stockton Beach, Geof’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring.

One of Geof’s fondest memories from his early days with the council was helping to plant a line of trees along Newcastle Road, near Marks Hotel. Today, these Eucalyptus trees stand tall and mature, symbolising his lasting impact on the community. This project reflects his dedication to the environment and his community-minded spirit, marking it as one of his proudest achievements.

Geof’s contributions over the years have been invaluable. His peers recognise him as a mentor and a wealth of knowledge, always ready to provide guidance and support. His incredible dedication and hard work were formally acknowledged in a recent council meeting, where he was awarded a Service Medal commemorating his half-century of commitment to Newcastle.

The recognition of Geof’s service was a significant moment, not only for him but for our whole community. It highlights the importance of long-term dedication and the positive impact one individual can have over decades of service.
