Newcastle Permanent has announced that the recent issues affecting card payments for customers have been fully resolved. Over the weekend, many customers experienced intermittent disruptions while trying to complete transactions at various retailers, including Kmart, Coles, and Target.

The glitch, which affected both credit and debit payments, was attributed to a problem with the bank’s card scheme provider. While the issue caused frustration among customers, the bank confirmed that it was not linked to the recent payment disruptions experienced by other institutions such as Commonwealth Bank and Westpac.

In a statement released on Saturday, Newcastle Permanent initially reported that the problem had been fixed. However, ongoing complaints on social media suggested that some customers continued to face difficulties. By Sunday afternoon, the issue had been addressed, and the bank reassured customers that their card services were back to normal.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused over the weekend,” a spokesperson from Newcastle Permanent said. “Our team worked closely with our card scheme provider to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and we thank our customers for their patience. If anyone continues to experience difficulties, please contact us directly for support.”

During the outage, customers were advised to insert their cards and select cheque or savings options if the tap-and-go function failed. Now that the issue is resolved, customers can resume using their cards without further disruptions.

For any remaining questions or support, Newcastle Permanent encourages customers to reach out directly via their online portal or customer service channels.
