newy.com.au – Lake Macquarie City Council is asking residents and businesses to help set priorities for improvements to Boolaroo’s Main Road, with community feedback to guide a long term plan for the town centre.

The Boolaroo Improvement Project is part of the council’s broader Main Road rehabilitation project between Speers Point and Boolaroo, which will replace ageing infrastructure. The consultation will examine opportunities to improve the town centre’s safety, accessibility and appearance beyond the essential roadworks.

Mayor Adam Shultz said the planning process was at an early stage.

“This is the start of the conversation. No designs or decisions have been finalised, and community feedback will help guide the development of a long-term streetscape master plan.”

The project draws on earlier community feedback, including consultation for the 2024 Boolaroo Heritage Interpretation Plan and requests to the council about pedestrian safety, footpaths, drainage and road conditions.

The council wants to hear what people value about Boolaroo and where they see a need for change. Landscaping, public spaces, connections around the centre and support for local businesses are among the areas being considered.

Acting Manager City Projects Mark Taylor said the infrastructure project offered a chance to consider how the centre could better meet the needs of residents, businesses and visitors.

Feedback from the online survey and future community workshops will inform the streetscape master plan.

Consultation closes on 29 November 2026. Community members can complete the survey through the council’s Boolaroo consultation page.
