newy.com.au – Hunter motorists face night closures on Cormorant Road at Kooragang and Tomago Road, along with stops of up to 10 minutes on the Hunter Expressway, during the week beginning Monday 2 November.

Transport for NSW’s alert for the week ending Sunday 8 November 2026 covers the state roads it manages. Work is subject to weather and other conditions, and the agency warns delays may be unavoidable where several work sites affect the same route.

Detours will be in place during the closure for night work on Cormorant Road. Tomago Road will close for night work as part of the M1 to Raymond Terrace upgrade, while landscaping and finishing activities continue on the project.

Old Punt Road is closed to northbound traffic between Kennington Drive and the Pacific Highway, with a detour in place. Drivers also face lane reductions on Maitland Road and the New England Highway at Hexham.

In Raymond Terrace, traffic signals will be switched off at times during night safety work at the Adelaide Street and Glenelg Street intersection.

Night powerline work on the Hunter Expressway will involve lane reductions and intermittent stops of up to 10 minutes. At Weston, drivers also face delays of up to 10 minutes during night resurfacing on Cessnock Road, where traffic will alternate under stop/slow controls.

In the Maitland area, early work for a bridge duplication will involve intermittent lane closures at night. On the New England Highway, the program includes night work at High Street and ground investigations and surveying at Cessnock Road.

The Rankin Park to Jesmond project will bring night detours at Jesmond for asphalt work and lane reductions for night work at New Lambton Heights, including asphalting. Separate overnight changes on Parry Street and Stewart Avenue in Newcastle West are planned for red light speed camera removal and relocation.

Resurfacing in Lake Macquarie will affect the Pacific Highway intersections at Livingstone Street, Belmont, and Ferris Street and Dudley Road, Charlestown. A detour is in place for intersection upgrade work on Hillsborough Road between Barker Avenue and Crockett Street.

On the M1 Pacific Motorway at Cooranbong, drivers should expect lane restrictions and a reduced speed limit between Newport Road and Jigadee Creek. Night work will also change traffic conditions on T C Frith Avenue at Boolaroo and Speers Point.

Traffic may also be heavier around Newcastle event venues. The alert lists AFC Elite at McDonald Jones Stadium on Tuesday 3 November, followed by the Rugby League World Cup at the same venue on Saturday 7 November. The Wiggles concerts at Newcastle Entertainment Centre are also listed for Saturday. Motorists should allow extra travel time and watch for increased pedestrian activity near the venues.
