newy.com.au – Access between Fourth Street and T C Frith Avenue at Boolaroo will be closed for up to three months from Monday 23 November 2026 as work continues on the Speers Point transport improvements project.
Transport for NSW has advised drivers to use Seventh Street or Creek Reserve Road instead. Right turns into and out of Second Street at T C Frith Avenue will also be prohibited during this period, although left turns will remain available. Drivers affected by the right turn restrictions should use Main Road or Seventh Street.
The access changes will follow a shift of all traffic towards the southbound shoulder of T C Frith Avenue from Sunday 22 November, allowing construction to proceed on the northbound side.
Dedicated right turn lanes will be built on T C Frith Avenue at Second and Fourth streets. Once completed, the permanent layout will allow left turns into and out of those streets and right turns into them, but no right turns out.
Changed traffic conditions for construction between the Speers Point roundabout and First Street will begin on Sunday 1 November. Night work is scheduled from 7pm to 5am on Sunday to Friday nights through to Friday 4 December, weather permitting.
Day work will take place from 7am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, and from 8am to 6pm on Saturdays when required, also subject to weather. Traffic control and a reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place. Drivers are advised to follow signs and traffic directions and drive to the conditions.
Freight operators will also face a temporary three metre width limit in both directions on T C Frith Avenue from Sunday 22 November for about three months. The restriction will apply 24 hours a day between The Esplanade/Five Islands Road at Speers Point and Main Road/Munibung Road at Boolaroo because of temporary line marking changes, narrower lanes and concrete barriers.
Before that restriction begins, operators of heavy vehicles more than three metres wide travelling between Sunday 1 November and Saturday 21 November are advised to contact the project team on 0427 813 728 at least one day before travelling. The project operates on UHF channel 20.
Vehicles travelling under a permit must remain on their approved route unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator. Operators travelling under a Notice must consult their relevant enforceable network map to confirm a suitable approved alternative route.
