newy.com.au – Nearly 100 community garage sales have been registered across Maitland for November’s Garage Sale Trail, which is set to end after a 16 year run.

Maitland Mayor Philip Penfold encouraged residents to take part in the final year of the national secondhand shopping event.

“This is the final year of the trail, so we want to see Maitland come together for one big, last hurrah. It’s a great way to save money, support your neighbours and embrace sustainable shopping,” Cr Penfold said.

According to figures in the event announcement, more than 7,700 Maitland residents took part last year, and local shoppers saved $155,000 by buying secondhand rather than new.

St James Anglican Church in Morpeth will hold sales and activities on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 November 2026. The program includes secondhand goods, a plant and book sale, car washing, and morning and afternoon tea.

Father Nicholas Edwards, from Morpeth Anglican Church, said the event was an opportunity to show how the church reused goods and reduced waste.

“I encourage people to come along and see how we make use of secondhand clothes and goods rather than throwing them away. We hope this will inspire them to do likewise,” Fr Edwards said.

He said the church had more than 50 volunteers, many of whom would help during the event, and wanted to remain closely involved in the Morpeth community.

Other Morpeth locations listed for this year’s trail include the Men’s Shed, Uniting Church Hall, School of Arts Hall and Morpeth Public School.
