newy.com.au – Cormorant Road is scheduled to close between Egret Street and Teal Street at Kooragang for 57 hours from 8pm on Friday 30 October 2026 while the rail crossing is replaced.

The closure is due to end at 5am on Monday 2 November. Crews will work around the clock, replacing the crossing, renewing pavement on either side and completing line marking.

The traffic alert advises motorists to allow an extra 20 minutes for detours.

Light vehicles travelling in either direction will be diverted via Teal Street, Raven Street and Egret Street before returning to Cormorant Road.

B-doubles and oversize or overmass vehicles will be diverted via Nelson Bay Road, Cabbage Tree Road, Tomago Road, the Pacific Highway, Maitland Road, Industrial Drive and Tourle Street. Drivers of vehicles travelling under permit are advised to avoid travel on the work dates.

Further pavement and median strip upgrades are scheduled for two overnight shifts: from 8pm on Monday 2 November to 5am on Tuesday 3 November, and from 8pm on Tuesday 3 November to 5am on Wednesday 4 November.

Road closures and reduced speed limits will apply during the works. Footpath closures will also affect pedestrians and cyclists, who will be directed along detours by traffic controllers and signs.

The project notice warns of machinery noise during the work. It says noise will be reduced as much as possible and targeted lighting used to limit light spill.

For questions about the works, the notice lists Cargill project manager Drew Dymke on 0461 308 085. Motorists can check traffic updates through Live Traffic NSW, download the Live Traffic NSW app or call 132 701.
