newy.com.au – Hunter motorists have until Sunday 8 November to help shape priorities for planned upgrades along the Newcastle to Dubbo road corridor, which has been allocated $520.8 million in federal and NSW government funding.

A Strategic Options Summary Report identifies potential projects, focusing on the Golden Highway. Community feedback will help Transport’s project team refine the proposals and prioritise work for the short, medium and long term.

The corridor’s funding includes upgrades along the Golden Highway, John Renshaw Drive and Hunter Expressway, strengthening road connections between the Hunter and the Central West. It is part of the Australian and NSW governments’ $1.74 billion Regional Corridors Upgrade Program covering three NSW road corridors.

The proposed upgrades aim to improve safety and journey reliability, support freight movements and cater for traffic demand.

Another online project information session will be held on Monday 2 November, following face to face sessions in October. Residents and other road users can access the Have Your Say platform and further information through Transport’s Newcastle to Dubbo project page.

Minister for the Hunter Yasmin Catley encouraged people who regularly use the roads to contribute.

“The people who drive these roads every day know it better than anyone. We want to hear from them about what needs fixing and where this work should start.”

After consultation closes, feedback will be reviewed and summarised to guide the next stages of project development and delivery. The government says funded projects will continue to progress through design and delivery.

The NSW Government also says its Project Swift initiative will accelerate the upgrades by removing unnecessary processes, reducing duplication and allowing more work to proceed at the same time.
