newy.com.au – Port Stephens Council has opened Round 2 of its Community Funding Program, offering community groups, organisations and creatives up to $6,000 per project to deliver initiatives across the Port Stephens region.
The council said the grants were aimed at projects that celebrate culture, strengthen community wellbeing and activate public spaces, with applications open from Sunday 1 February to Sunday 1 March 2026.
Mayor Leah Anderson said the second funding round continued council’s support for local projects led by the community. “These grants are about backing local ideas that bring people together, celebrate culture and create places where communities can connect and thrive,” Anderson said.
She said Round 1 had demonstrated the value of grassroots initiatives. “Round 1 showed just how powerful community-led projects can be, and we’re excited to see what new ideas come forward in this next round,” Anderson said.
Round 2 includes three funding streams: the Community Support Fund, Aboriginal Projects Fund and Vibrant Spaces Fund. The Aboriginal Projects Fund supports projects that celebrate, enhance and promote Aboriginal culture in Port Stephens, including arts, education, events and cultural initiatives that deliver community outcomes.
The Community Support Fund is open to community groups and not-for-profit organisations for projects, activities and events designed to build wellbeing, resilience and connection. The Vibrant Spaces Fund supports public art, lighting, historical or place interpretation and other creative activations intended to bring life to public spaces and town centres.
Anderson said earlier rounds had backed initiatives that strengthened cultural connection, improved health and wellbeing outcomes, and created more inclusive public experiences. “It’s been fantastic to see how previous recipients have used this funding to create lasting benefits for the community. If you have an idea that can support the community, celebrate culture or breathe new life into a public space, I encourage you to apply,” she said.
She said council staff could assist applicants. “These grants are designed to be accessible, and our team is available to help applicants through the process if needed,” Anderson said.
Council said the broader Community Funding Program also included year-round funding through the Community Event Development Fund, Sporting Excellence Fund, Major Event Sponsorship Fund and Vibrant Spaces Micro Grant Fund, and previously supported projects such as Christmas food hampers, a Gathang language, storytelling and dance program, community murals and history trails.
Further information is available from the Vibrant Places team on 02 4988 0255 or via pscgrants@portstephens.nsw.gov.au, with application details listed on the Port Stephens Council Grants and Funding page at pscouncil.info/grants-funding-scholarships.
