newy.com.au – A report of a possible aircraft crash on Mt Sugarloaf prompted a major emergency response on Saturday afternoon before crews discovered the smoke was coming from a burnt out four wheel drive.
Emergency services were alerted after a caller contacted Triple Zero believing an aircraft had crashed.
Fire and Rescue NSW’s Holmesville crew was dispatched at 2.48pm, followed by NSW Rural Fire Service crews from Seahampton and Cameron Park and other emergency services as they searched for the reported crash site.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter was also sent to the area and located a column of smoke.
On closer inspection, emergency crews determined the smoke was coming from a burnt-out Toyota LandCruiser rather than an aircraft.
The aviation response was called off, while several tankers remained at the scene to extinguish the vehicle fire.
