newy.com.au – Artist impressions for new NSW Ambulance stations at Caves Beach and Gateshead in the Hunter were unveiled by the Minns Labor Government on Thursday 15 January 2026.
The two projects form part of the NSW Government’s $615.5 million NSW Ambulance Infrastructure Program, which is earmarked to deliver 30 additional ambulance stations and upgrades to paramedic infrastructure in coming years to support emergency and mobile medical care.
The purpose-built stations will include internal parking for emergency ambulance vehicles, a dedicated vehicle wash bay, a multipurpose area for paramedics, a gym, meeting and training rooms, administration areas, logistics and storage facilities, and on-site parking.
Health Minister Ryan Park said the stations would “support our paramedics to deliver world-class emergency care to communities in the Hunter well into the future”, adding the investment would help “optimise response times” and back frontline workers with the infrastructure and resources needed across NSW.
The Gateshead station is planned for 79 Oakdale Road, while the Caves Beach station is planned for 2-4 Kayuga Close. The government said both sites had strong access to the major road network and would complement existing ambulance stations as the region’s health needs grow.
Minister for the Hunter and Member for Swansea Yasmin Catley said she had been “relentless in fighting to secure the services our community needs”, and argued a closer ambulance station would mean “faster care when every second counts and that can be the difference between life and death”.
Member for Charlestown Jodie Harrison welcomed the Gateshead site and the release of the impressions, saying it was “a significant milestone in delivering a vital health service for our local community and surrounding areas”.
The government said additional new stations were also planned at East Maitland, Edgeworth and North Rothbury, and communities would be updated as planning progressed.
Construction on the Caves Beach and Gateshead stations is expected to begin this year, subject to planning approval and the appointment of building contractors.
