newy.com.au – Beresfield Golf Course will reopen tomorrow, Wednesday 14 January 2026, under new management after being closed since September last year.
City of Newcastle says the council-owned golf facility will welcome back players after appointing Clublinks Management to operate the venue under a new 15-year lease, ending a four-month closure that began when the previous operator’s lease expired on 1 September 2025.
The scheduled reopening matters to local golfers and visitors because the course is a popular community facility offering multiple ways to play, including golf, footgolf, disc golf and mini-golf, and its closure had paused these recreational opportunities.
Council’s Executive Director Corporate Services, David Clarke, said extensive works were carried out during the closure to prepare the site for reopening and future use. These included replacing failed bridges and repairing buildings and on-course infrastructure, while Hunter Water upgraded the major sewer main.
Mr Clarke said appointing Clublinks, one of Australia’s larger leisure service providers, would help ensure the long-term sustainability of the facility. Clublinks manages other courses across Sydney, Victoria and Western Australia and will bring a “customer-first” approach to Beresfield.
Clublinks CEO Anthony Lawrence said his company was “thrilled” to partner with the council to revitalise the golf course, with plans to enhance the location’s offerings. He said the vision for the facility was to “create a vibrant, inclusive space where everyone can play, laugh, and connect”, and that improvements would focus on accessibility, sustainability and service.
In addition to the existing nine-hole golf layout, the new management says it will look to add a multi-bay driving range and build Newcastle’s first dedicated padel courts, broadening the site’s appeal beyond traditional golf.
The reopening marks a fresh chapter for the facility and provides more activities for residents and visitors to enjoy in the Newcastle region, with further improvements expected over time under the long-term contract.
