The holiday season is just around the corner, and Newcastle Permanent’s Christmas Under the Stars is returning to King Edward Park on Saturday, 7 December 2024, with a lineup guaranteed to spread Christmas cheer.
Festivities will begin at 5pm, featuring live performances of beloved Christmas carols from talented local acts such as The Vanguard Players, the Flex Quinn Trio, Tim Harding, and the Belmont Dance Centre. As the sun sets, the event will transform into a magical outdoor cinema, screening the holiday classic Home Alone 2: Lost in New York — perfect for the entire family.
Kids can immerse themselves in festive fun with a range of free activities, including a sustainable craft workshop where they can create their own Christmas cards and tree decorations. Other attractions include face painting, lawn games, an inflatable soccer target, and a chance to snap memorable photos in Santa’s sleigh before the jolly man himself makes a special appearance.
Paul Juergens, Chief Distribution Officer at Newcastle Permanent, highlighted the importance of this community tradition. “King Edward Park has hosted Christmas carols for years, creating a beautiful, shared experience for our community every holiday season,” Mr Juergens said. “The live performances and the magical movie setting under the stars make for a truly special night.”
The screening of Home Alone 2 will start after sundown, where families can laugh and relive the adventures of Kevin McCallister as he navigates the chaos of New York City, outsmarting two bumbling burglars. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and enjoy free popcorn while soaking in the holiday atmosphere.
“Watching Home Alone 2 outdoors brings a sense of magic that’s hard to match,” Juergens added. “It’s a film that appeals across generations, and we’re excited to see families come together to share that experience.”
For those driving in, a complimentary shuttle bus will be running from 4pm to 11:59pm, looping every 10-15 minutes between Bar Beach car park and Bolton Street car park. Organisers are urging attendees to check Newcastle Permanent’s Facebook page for the latest event details.
Guests are welcome to pack a picnic or choose from a selection of food trucks on site. The event is alcohol-free to ensure a safe and family-friendly atmosphere.
