newy.com.au – In the early hours of this morning, 3 November 2024, Wallarah Rural Fire Brigade crews rushed to a structure fire at Raffertys Resort. The incident, reported at 1:47 am, had firefighters confronting thick clouds of smoke billowing from a shed.

Acting promptly, Wallarah’s CABA (Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus) operators began their efforts with an external knockdown before gaining entry through the shed’s rear. Fortunately, the property owners had already evacuated and found safety at a neighbour’s house by the time fire crews arrived.

Quick and coordinated efforts by the firefighters successfully prevented the blaze from spreading to the roof cavity and adjoining home. Multiple CABA teams rotated shifts, meticulously working to extinguish hot spots and mop up internal areas before declaring the site safe.

The fire was determined to have been sparked by an E-bike battery that was on charge, underlining the potential dangers of such devices if not handled with caution.

Support from Lake Munmorah Rural Fire Brigade and Fire and Rescue NSW Station 447 Swansea proved invaluable, ensuring the fire was contained rapidly. Wallarah Rural Fire Brigade has praised all members and assisting teams for their dedication and professionalism in tackling the incident.
