A teenage boy has been arrested following a major collision between a stolen utility vehicle and a motorcycle on High Street, Maitland, early this morning, 5 November 2024.
The incident occurred around 6:15 a.m. near The Long Bridge (Veterans Flat) on High Street. Emergency services rushed to the scene where a white Toyota Hilux utility had collided with a motorcycle. The rider, a 58-year-old man, sustained serious injuries and was stabilised by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital.
Police from the Port Stephens-Hunter District apprehended the alleged driver of the utility, a 16-year-old male, nearby. The teenager, who sustained injuries, was transported to Maitland Hospital under police guard for treatment and mandatory testing. Authorities have confirmed that preliminary investigations reveal the utility was reported stolen from Pelaw Main overnight.
