With the sun shining down on the Lake Macquarie foreshore, Toronto’s beloved historic baths have reopened following a $1.4 million facelift. The upgrade, completed just in time for the warmer months, brings fresh facilities aimed at improving accessibility and safety for the community.

Mayor Adam Shultz, accompanied by Member for Lake Macquarie Greg Piper and NSW Government representative Emily Suvaal MLC, officially opened the revitalised site. The upgrade, funded in part by a $1 million grant from the NSW Government’s Places to Swim Program, adds new ramps, jetty decking, and netting for a safer, more inclusive experience.

“This enhancement makes Toronto Baths a welcoming place for everyone,” Mayor Shultz said at the opening. “The facility now offers even more appeal as a gathering spot for locals and tourists alike, ready to host families and friends through the busy summer season.”

The new accessibility ramp has received high praise from members of the Toronto Early Swimmers Club, including long-time member Bevan McGregor, who shared, “The ramp is a game-changer for those of us who need a little extra help getting into the water. The baths feel more inviting than ever.”

Planning and Public Spaces Minister Paul Scully echoed the community’s excitement, emphasising the project’s alignment with Toronto’s ongoing foreshore transformation. “These improvements respect the baths’ heritage while making them a safer, more accessible environment,” Minister Scully said. “With the new netting, everyone can enjoy a worry-free swim as summer rolls in.”

The Toronto Baths upgrades are a key component of Lake Macquarie City Council’s broader revitalisation efforts along the foreshore. For details on these developments and others under the Places to Swim Program, visit lakemac.com.au.
