Raptor Squad officers have charged two men from the Hunter region following an investigation into the alleged sale of multiple firearms.
The investigation, initiated by the State Crime Command’s Raptor Squad in August 2024, focused on the activities of Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG) members suspected of selling firearms.
On Wednesday morning, 28 August 2024, Raptor North officers arrested a 30-year-old man, alleged to be a member of the Finks OMCG, at his residence on Greville Street, Beresfield. The man was subsequently taken to Maitland Police Station for processing.
Shortly after, police executed a search warrant at a property on View Street, East Branxton. During the search, Raptor Squad officers discovered and seized a Glock firearm, a taser, a baton, knuckle dusters, ecstasy tablets, six vials of steroids, and over $2,000 in cash.
A 19-year-old man at the East Branxton property allegedly attempted to evade police by hiding within the home but was eventually apprehended and taken to Cessnock Police Station.
The 30-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences, including the unlawful supply of firearms, possession of prohibited drugs, and dealing with proceeds of crime. He was refused bail and appeared before Maitland Local Court yesterday.
The 19-year-old man faces charges including possession and use of prohibited weapons, possession of an unauthorised pistol, and dealing with the proceeds of crime. He was also refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Cessnock Local Court today, 29 August 2024.
Police allege that the older man was involved in the sale of several firearms, including rifles and shotguns, while the younger man is accused of recently purchasing one of these firearms.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing. Authorities urge anyone with information that could assist the investigation to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or via the website https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. All information provided will be treated with strict confidentiality.
