newy.com.au – Construction of 15 social homes at Morisset has passed the halfway mark, the NSW Government says, with the $17 million project due for completion in mid-2027.

The nine two bedroom and six three bedroom townhouses are expected to house more than 40 people. They are being built on previously vacant lots close to shops, schools, parks and Morisset train station.

Community housing provider Evolve Housing will also deliver four specialist disability accommodation homes on the site, in addition to the 15 social homes. The disability housing will include self contained units, communal areas and support spaces designed to meet the needs of people living with disability.

The government says a total of 27 new homes across the Lake Macquarie local government area are on track for completion by mid-2027.

Minister for the Hunter Yasmin Catley said the development would help people struggling to find secure housing.

“Every new home built is a new opportunity to support a family, older resident or vulnerable member of the community who is struggling to find safe and secure housing.”

Housing Australia chief executive Sarah Amos said the Morisset project was part of a pipeline of housing being delivered through the Housing Australia Future Fund. Evolve Housing Group chief executive Lyall Gorman said funding through the fund had been instrumental in enabling the provider to continue delivering homes for people most in need.

The NSW Government says the development also forms part of its $6.6 billion Building Homes for NSW program. The program aims to deliver 8,400 new public housing homes and 21,000 affordable and market homes, as well as upgrades to 30,000 existing social housing properties across the state.
