Jim’s Dairy Delites: Newcastle’s Historic Milk Bar SOLD and Undergoing Restoration Newy Staff

newy.com.au – Cessnock, Port Stephens, Muswellbrook and the Upper Hunter are among regional NSW communities included in a new community transport trial aimed at helping people get to study, training and work.
Transport for NSW will fund 16 community transport providers across regional NSW to test expanded eligibility for people who have limited or no access to private or public transport and need to attend face-to-face study at TAFE NSW or a Registered Training Organisation, or travel to work as an apprentice or trainee.
In Cessnock, the trial will be delivered through Northern Coalfields Community Care. Other Hunter region areas included in the program are Port Stephens, through Linked Community Services, and Muswellbrook and the Upper Hunter, through Transcare Community Transport.
Community transport is currently available to transport-disadvantaged people, including eligible seniors, pensioners, people with accessibility needs and those with limited access to public transport. The trial broadens that access in selected areas to test whether the service can help remove transport barriers for people pursuing education, training and employment.
Transport for NSW’s Anthony Hayes said reliable and affordable transport remained one of the biggest barriers for people in regional communities.
“This trial is a valuable test-and-learn opportunity, helping us understand how community transport can better connect more people to education and employment, while continuing to support those who already rely on these services today.
“By extending community transport to support access to training, apprenticeships and further education, the trial could open new pathways for people and help them build new skills and secure long-term employment.”
The trial will be tailored to local community needs and delivered by local organisations already working in community transport. Transport for NSW said customer and provider feedback would be monitored to help inform future options.
The program is time-limited and will run until 30 June 2027, with start dates varying across regions. Areas serviced may also be subject to provider availability.
