newy.com.au – Hunter Imaging and Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology officially opened new co-located practices in Newcastle’s CBD, bringing diagnostic imaging and pathology services together at 291 King Street.
The new Newcastle City practices have been developed as a central healthcare destination, aimed at improving access to timely diagnostics for people who live and work in the city, as well as patients from across the wider region. The opening comes as Newcastle’s CBD continues to attract new housing, higher-density development and investment in the city centre.
Hunter Imaging CEO Dr Demetrius Voutnis said the new site reflected the organisation’s long-term commitment to strengthening healthcare capability across regional NSW through investment in advanced technology and skilled teams.
“Newcastle’s city centre is growing and changing quickly, and it is important that essential health services keep pace. This new site strengthens access to trusted, patient-first diagnostic imaging in a central location,” Dr Voutnis said.
“This opening is part of our commitment to investing in the health of our communities. By bringing high-quality diagnostics into Newcastle’s CBD, and investing in advanced technology, we are expanding access to care when and where people need it, supporting better outcomes for patients across Newcastle,” he said.
The Hunter Imaging practice includes advanced CT capability to support specialised investigations such as cardiac imaging, as well as MRI, ultrasound and X-ray services for routine care. The investment is intended to support earlier diagnosis, smoother care pathways and reduce the need for some patients to travel outside the region for specialised tests.
Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology CEO Dr Melanie Galea said locating pathology and imaging services together would make the process easier for patients and referrers.
“Co-locating pathology with diagnostic imaging supports a more connected patient journey and improves access for the community. Bringing these key services together in one convenient Newcastle CBD location will help support timely results, reduce any barriers to access, and make it easier for patients and referrers to navigate the next steps in care, right in the heart of the city.” Dr Galea said.
The new practices are located alongside King Street Private Hospital and other specialist services, including orthopaedic consulting suites, creating a more connected healthcare precinct in the CBD.
