newy.com.au – Students at Lakeside School in Gateshead have new classroom, sensory and outdoor learning facilities after a $400,000 upgrade funded through the Albanese Government’s Schools Upgrade Fund.
Federal Member for Shortland Pat Conroy officially opened the improvements last Friday, May 1, saying the works would help strengthen therapeutic and inclusive learning environments at the school.
The project included refurbished classrooms, acoustic improvements in learning areas and removal works inside buildings. Outdoor upgrades included a new playground area, shade sails and new sensory and play equipment.
“A lot of work has gone into this project which has delivered wonderful new learning and sensory spaces at Lakeside School,” Mr Conroy said.
He said the funding was part of the government’s commitment to improving school facilities and supporting students in local communities.
“The Albanese Government is committed to providing all schools with funding so that all students, including those at Lakeside School, get the best possible educational experience,” Mr Conroy said.
“The teachers, staff and students at Lakeside School have built a strong and positive school community and these new facilities will further enhance our local educational opportunities.
“Our Government strongly believes in supporting schools so that local students can realise their potential in a safe and supportive learning environment.”
