newy.com.au – A 47-year-old man has been charged after a police officer was allegedly struck by an unregistered motorbike during a high-visibility operation on the Fernleigh Track at Kahibah on Thursday.

Police said officers from Lake Macquarie Police District were conducting e-bike patrols about 11.30am on 16 April 2026 after reports of antisocial behaviour in the area. While officers were speaking with a 14-year-old boy on the track, a motorbike allegedly approached them.

According to police, officers identified themselves and directed the rider to stop, but he allegedly continued towards them and struck one officer in the arm with the bike. Police will allege the rider then crashed into a stationary police e-bike, damaging it, before hitting a nearby guard rail.

The man was arrested at the scene and taken to Belmont Police Station. The officer was not seriously injured and did not require hospital treatment.

Police said a search of the motorbike allegedly uncovered an unauthorised cardboard number plate and two knives, which have been seized for forensic testing.

The man was charged with seven offences, including dangerous driving, custody of a knife in a public place, using a vehicle with an unauthorised number plate, using an unregistered vehicle, using an uninsured vehicle, using a vehicle on a road-related area with motor vehicle tax unpaid, and malicious damage.

Police will allege the cardboard number plate was registered to a different vehicle and to another person.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in Bail Division Court 2 on Friday, 17 April 2026.
