newy.com.au – A 32-year-old man has been charged with multiple firearm and weapon offences after police allegedly found a rifle, firearm parts, ammunition and other weapons at a Waratah West home.
Newcastle City Police District officers began investigating earlier this month after reports the man had allegedly threatened a 19-year-old woman known to him with a firearm.
About 9am on Friday 10 April 2026, Newcastle police, assisted by the Tactical Operations Unit, police negotiators and Traffic and Highway Patrol, executed a search warrant at a house on Parkhill Parade.
Police will allege they seized a loaded spear gun, an extendable baton, four gel blasters, a rifle, firearm parts and an amount of ammunition during the search. Officers also allegedly located and seized a stolen vehicle.
The man was arrested at the home and taken to Waratah Police Station, where he was charged with five counts of possessing an unauthorised firearm, two counts of possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit, using, supplying, acquiring or possessing a stolen firearm or part, possessing ammunition without holding a licence, permit or authority, being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, and receiving property alleged to have been stolen in a serious indictable offence.
He was refused bail and is due to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Saturday 11 April 2026.
