newy.com.au – Motorists using key roads around Black Hill, Tarro, Tomago and Beresfield will face changed traffic conditions from Tuesday, April 7, as construction continues on the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace.
Transport for NSW said westbound lanes on the New England Highway would be closed for one night on Wednesday, April 8, from 8pm to 5am to allow permanent signage to be installed.
During that closure, northbound traffic on the M1 Motorway will be directed onto the southbound lane at Black Hill before rejoining the New England Highway at Tarro. M1 traffic bound for Tarro will need to use the turnaround bay at Hexham to travel west, while the off-ramp to Anderson Drive at Tarro will also be inaccessible.
Traffic travelling from Newcastle on the New England Highway towards Maitland will be detoured via John Renshaw Drive and Weakleys Drive.
Transport for NSW said no work would be carried out on Monday, April 6. Other major construction work is scheduled from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 5pm on Saturdays, as well as out of hours from 7pm to 5am on weeknights, except on the public holidays of Good Friday and Easter Monday.
Lane closures, contraflow, intermittent stoppages and temporary speed reductions to 40km/h will be in place from 8pm to 5am from Tuesday, April 7, until Friday, April 10, on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Beresfield and Black Hill, John Renshaw Drive at Beresfield, the New England Highway at Tarro, and the Pacific Highway at Tomago and Heatherbrae.
From 7am to 5pm over the same dates, changed conditions will also apply at Lenaghans Drive at Black Hill, Old Punt Road near the Pacific Highway at Tomago, and on the eastbound New England Highway at Tarro.
Motorists have been advised to allow extra travel time and follow the directions of signs and traffic controllers. Transport for NSW said it thanked motorists for their patience during the work.
Operators of oversize and/or over mass vehicles with a ground contact wider than 3.2 metres or an overall width wider than 4.5 metres have been told to phone the project team on 1800 094 895 at least one day before travel. Transport for NSW warned failure to make contact before travelling would result in significant delays.
It said vehicles travelling under permit must not leave the approved route listed in the permit unless an updated permit is obtained from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator. More information is available through Live Traffic NSW and the Live Traffic NSW app.
