newy.com.au – Swansea resident Jane Goddard has been named Swansea’s Local Woman of the Year for 2026, recognised for more than 20 years of volunteer work across a range of community initiatives.

Ms Goddard was nominated by Swansea MP Yasmin Catley during NSW Women’s Week, held from 2 to 8 March, which celebrates women across the state and promotes gender equality. A total of 94 women were nominated by local Members of Parliament as part of the 2026 awards.

According to Ms Catley, Ms Goddard has volunteered for more than two decades and has supported cancer patients through the Look Good Feel Better program, which delivers workshops focused on skincare, hair care and makeup to help participants regain confidence during treatment. In Newcastle, she has also volunteered at Soul Hub, where she has provided free haircuts and served hot meals to vulnerable members of the community.

Ms Goddard has also reconditioned wigs for people experiencing hair loss, using her skills to help ensure they feel confident and comfortable.

Women’s Minister Jodie Harrison said: “The Local Woman of the Year 2026 recognises and honours the contributions of everyday women and girls across New South Wales who are making a difference in their communities.”

Ms Catley said: “I’m incredibly proud to see Jane recognised as a role model in our community. Her dedication to improving life in Swansea and empowering women is both admirable and inspiring.”

All Local Women of the Year were to be recognised at the 2026 NSW Women of the Year Awards ceremony at the International Convention Centre in Sydney on Thursday, 5 March. Women who volunteer and live in regional, rural and remote parts of NSW are also being honoured through the Hidden Treasures Honour Roll.
