Prepare for four months of non-stop entertainment when the Lake Mac Festival returns bigger and better than ever from January to April 2025. This year’s festivities will feature an array of live music, community events, markets and, of course, spectacular fireworks that promise to light up the region’s iconic lakeside locales.

Lake Macquarie Mayor Adam Shultz says the pinnacle of the expanded festival program will be the Australia Day long weekend, with fireworks set to dazzle crowds on Saturday 25 January.

“We’re so excited to be hosting fireworks across the lake at 9pm on Saturday 25 January, with Belmont, Toronto and Warners Bay foreshore set to boast the best viewing spots,” Mayor Shultz said.

In Morisset, locals and visitors alike can enjoy double the pyrotechnic displays, with fireworks slated for both Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January as part of the Aussie Night Market at Morisset Showground.

An Expanded Festival Program
Other scheduled events across the Australia Day long weekend include Music in the Podium, the Windsurfer National Championships, a Super Family Fun Day and the Valentine Lions Club Community Day. According to Mayor Shultz, the extended festival period is expected to bring considerable economic benefits to local businesses while offering countless opportunities for friends, families and travellers to explore the city.

“The festival expansion over multiple months not only gives greater economic benefit to local businesses but provides friends, travellers and families more opportunities to connect and enjoy the entire city,” he said.
“From music events to sailing regattas to live entertainment and outdoor adventures, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”

Major Drawcards
Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism, Jacqui Hemsley, said that around 80 events are planned throughout the festival, including the highly anticipated Windsurfer National Championships, Boatfest, the brand-new Lookout Festival and multiple market days.

“It’s incredible to be hosting the Lookout Festival, which will bring a lineup of iconic acts – including Australian rock legends Jet, Grinspoon, The Veronicas, Spiderbait, Jebediah, Magic Dirt and Youth Group – to the city,” Ms Hemsley said.

The Lookout Festival is set to take the stage at Speers Point Park on Saturday 8 March, while the Windsurfer National Championships will be held from 22 to 26 January at the Toronto Amateur Sailing Club. Meanwhile, Boatfest will delight boating enthusiasts at Rathmines Park on Sunday 16 February, from 8am to 2pm, with boat displays, parts sales and more.

Arts, Theatre and Markets
The One Act Play Festival returns to Warners Bay Theatre on Saturday 5 April, offering a collection of short, sharp and exhilarating plays from local and visiting theatre groups. Over nine local markets – including Homegrown Markets, Made & Found Markets and the Farmers Markets – will also run throughout the festival, ensuring there’s something for every taste and interest.
