Newy 87.8 FM Playing The Music You Know And Love
Jim’s Dairy Delites: Newcastle’s Historic Milk Bar SOLD and Undergoing Restoration Newy Staff
Fort Scratchley is gearing up to host a spectacular open-air concert this Saturday. Proudly sponsored by Out of the Square Media, the event promises an evening where history and harmony intertwine against the breathtaking backdrop of Newcastle’s coastline.
Music enthusiasts will be treated to performances by the esteemed Australian Army Band Newcastle, the vibrant Waratah Brass Band, and the soul-stirring voices of the Australian Military Wives Choir. Adding to the evening’s excitement, attendees will witness the exhilarating firing of Fort Scratchley’s iconic guns—a nod to the fort’s rich military heritage.
Gates swing open at 5:00 pm, inviting guests to settle in before the performances commence at 6:00 pm. With tickets priced at $25 per person for those bringing their own chairs and $32 per person with seating provided, the event is accessible to a wide audience aged 16 years and older. As parking is limited, early arrival is recommended.
Patrons are welcome to bring along a small esky stocked with drinks and snacks to enjoy during the concert, though the use of tables is politely discouraged to maintain ample space for all attendees. Given the coastal evening chill, guests are advised to bring warm attire to stay comfortable as the sun dips below the horizon.
In the spirit of community and safety, organisers have noted that any necessary cancellations will be communicated via their Facebook page by 3:00 pm on the day of the event.
A Night Where Music Meets History
Perched atop Flagstaff Hill, Fort Scratchley is more than just a historical site; it’s a sentinel of Newcastle’s past. Established in 1882 to defend against potential seaborne threats, it notably engaged a Japanese submarine during World War II, making it the only Australian fort to have fired on an enemy naval vessel. Today, it stands as a museum and a cherished landmark, offering panoramic views of the city and sea.
This concert not only provides an opportunity to enjoy stellar musical performances but also to immerse oneself in the rich tapestry of local history. It’s a chance to experience the fort in a unique light, alive with the sounds of music and the camaraderie of community.
