Dora Creek Rural Fire Brigade had a hectic night after being called to three separate incidents in challenging weather conditions, all within a short time frame. Crews were first activated to attend a vehicle fire on the M1 Motorway near Dora Creek.
The initial callout saw the brigade handling a car fire that broke out in the rain, prompting quick action to extinguish the flames. On their return to the station, Dora Creek’s crew stumbled upon a car accident on the border of Morisset and Dora Creek. The wet conditions had caused a vehicle to lose control and crash into nearby bushes, coming to rest against the railway fencing. With police already at the scene, the Rural Fire Service (RFS) team assisted with fire protection and traffic management to ensure the area was safe.
As they wrapped up their duties at the second scene, reports of a third incident came in over the police radio. This time, it was a multiple-car collision just 3 kilometres south of Morisset, again on the M1. When the crew arrived, they found a Tesla sedan that had aquaplaned in the heavy rain, skidding across multiple lanes before coming to a stop in the median strip. Fortunately, no one was trapped or injured in the accident. Given the severity of the downpour and limited resources, the decision was made to leave the vehicle in the median strip overnight, with plans for recovery the following morning.
Despite the intensity of the wet weather and back-to-back callouts, no serious injuries were reported. The RFS urged drivers to exercise caution on the roads, particularly during adverse weather conditions.
“Wet roads and poor visibility can turn routine trips into dangerous situations,” a spokesperson from Dora Creek RFS said. “We ask that all motorists take extra care and drive to the conditions.”
This series of incidents serves as a reminder of the risks posed by wet weather, with emergency services stretched across multiple locations to ensure the safety of all involved.
