A man is safe and uninjured following a Kayak incident at Swansea Heads, he was paddling back from Catherine Hill Bay and was hit by a rogue wave. The incident, which occurred north-east of the island, prompted a swift response from multiple agencies, including Marine Rescue, Westpac Rescue Helicopter, and the local Police Area Command.
He was paddling back from Catherine Hill Bay and hit by a wave. Emergency services were called in, and a Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to assess the situation. However, conditions proved too dangerous for a direct helicopter rescue, leading paramedics to recommend the man be winched off the rocks.
Despite the challenging circumstances, the man remained uninjured throughout the ordeal. Authorities confirmed that while his Kayak remained on the rocks, his vehicle was parked elsewhere. Two helicopters, including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter and PolAir, were involved in the operation.
Westpac Rescue Helicopter has since received approval to winch the man from the rocks, with plans to drop him off at Blacksmiths to retrieve his belongings.
This multi-agency effort highlights the cooperation and rapid response of local emergency services in ensuring the safety of individuals in precarious situations.
Marine Rescue described the conditions as challenging, with up to 4 meter swells.
