In a significant step forward for the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace, crews have completed the first concrete pour for a new bridge at Tomago. The milestone was achieved recently as part of the ongoing development aimed at improving transport links in the Hunter region.
A total of 150 cubic metres of concrete was poured on the first bridge deck, which will form a crucial part of the new motorway interchange at Tomago. The concrete pour proceeded successfully, despite the threat of overcast skies throughout the day. This bridge, located near Tomago Road, will be the first of 11 planned bridges for the project.
Jenny Aitchison MP praised the project team’s efforts, highlighting that the construction of the bridge marks a pivotal point in the motorway extension. “It’s great to see all hands on deck as the team reaches this key milestone,” she said.
Approximately 18,000 cubic metres of concrete will be used across the 11 bridges being built as part of the M1 extension, underscoring the scale of the project. The upgrade will enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion in the region once completed, providing better connectivity for commuters and businesses alike.
The M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace is expected to improve travel times on the M1, making journeys safer and more efficient. It will also improve traffic flow on the New England Highway and Maitland Road/Pacific Highway. This latest achievement brings the project one step closer to completion.
Further updates on the project’s progress will be shared as construction advances over the coming months.
