newy.com.au – Hunter motorists face possible delays at several points on the route from Newcastle to the Central West during the week beginning Monday, September 14, as roadworks coincide with increased wind farm deliveries.
Transport for NSW said oversized and heavy-load deliveries had increased, with several movements leaving the Port of Newcastle for Uungula Wind Farm six days a week. Delays of up to 10 minutes are expected at some individual work sites, and the agency warned that the combined impact of roadworks and deliveries could hold drivers up repeatedly along their journey.
On the Newcastle end of the route, motorists should expect changed conditions around the Industrial Drive and Vine Street intersection upgrade at Mayfield and the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace.
Further along the route towards Mount Thorley, the Mudies Creek upgrade around the Golden Highway and Mitchell Line of Road is expected to cause short delays, including impacts on oversized loads. Slope stabilisation work is also taking place on the Golden Highway near Putty Road. No roadwork impacts were listed for the section between Mount Thorley and Denman.
Drivers continuing west will encounter two work sites at Sandy Hollow. Construction of a pull-over bay on the Golden Highway near Cowan’s Bus Service could cause delays of up to 10 minutes and affect oversized loads. Separate roadwork near Peberdy’s Road will operate under stop/slow traffic control.
At Merriwa, lane widening on the Golden Highway near Barnett Street may require short road closures at times, with oversized loads also affected. Beyond Merriwa, pull-over bay construction near Tongy Lane at Uarbry and east of Back Creek at Leadville could each delay traffic by up to 10 minutes.
Another delay of up to 10 minutes is expected at the Golden Highway and Castlereagh Highway intersection works at Dunedoo, on the final section of the listed route towards Uungula Wind Farm.
The warning covers a broader road network that includes the Pacific, New England, Golden and Castlereagh highways. Transport for NSW urged motorists to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow directions from traffic controllers and pilot vehicles accompanying oversized loads.
