Torana enthusiasts are gearing up for one of the biggest car events of the year as the iconic Toranafest 2024 returns to Maitland, celebrating its 30th anniversary. Set for the 14th and 15th of September, the event is expected to draw in hundreds of car lovers from across Australia, with 567 Toranas already registered.
The two-day festival will kick off with a Super Cruise on Saturday, 14th September, starting at Club Maitland City. Participants will cruise through the scenic Hunter region, making their way to Luskintyre Airfield, where a BBQ lunch will be available. The cruise, which pays homage to the Torana’s name—derived from the Indigenous word meaning “to fly”—is expected to attract over 250 vehicles. A gold coin donation is encouraged for entry at the airfield, with all proceeds going to charity.
Sunday, 15th September, will host the Show ‘n Shine at Maitland Park, showcasing hundreds of restored and modified Holden Toranas. Spectators can expect a day filled with classic cars, with gates opening at 9:00 am. Entry is free for the public, though donations are welcomed to support Ronald McDonald House Newcastle and Dog Rescue Newcastle, two charities Toranafest has proudly supported over the years. In 2019, the event raised $25,000, and organisers are hoping to surpass that figure this year.
A special highlight of the weekend will be the attendance of Australian motorsport legend Garry Rogers, who will join participants for a casual interview on Saturday night at Club Maitland City. Rogers, known for his contributions to motorsport through GRM Motorsport, will share stories from his impressive career.
Maitland has long been a hub for car culture, and the 30th anniversary of Toranafest is shaping up to be the largest yet. With 567 entries, the festival has already broken its previous record of 457 from 2019. For those looking to witness a significant slice of Australian automotive history, this weekend promises to be unforgettable.
