A sunny day in Hamilton quickly turned into a spectacle of road rage and unexpected humour near the corner of Lindsay and Beaumont Streets on 2nd September 2024. The confrontation between a red Ford and a white car outside Goodfolk Brewhouse drew the attention of onlookers, who were treated to an event equal parts chaotic and comical.
It all began when the red Ford crashed into the rear of the white vehicle, with its bumper bar detaching and latching onto the towball of the white car. This led to an intense exchange between the drivers, with the man from the white car, dressed in a black top, accusing the driver of the red Ford of “being up his arse since the Hamilton train station.” Tensions boiled over as punches were thrown through the window of the red Ford, while a bystander, who became an instant favourite, yelled out: “He only just tapped you, you f***wit!” The interaction sparked a mix of laughter and disbelief from passersby.
Video evidence from a Tesla’s Sentry Mode captured another angle of the incident, showing the red Ford tailgating dangerously close before the crash. As the bumper bar clung to the towball of the white car, concerned onlookers tried to intervene, shouting “Hey, hey, hey” in an attempt to calm the situation.
Adding to the chaos, a brunette woman, possibly a passenger in white car, could be seen frantically trying to detach the bumper from the white car while the shouting continued. Amidst the unfolding drama, the bystander with the raspy voice, dubbed “Shazza” by commenters, became a central figure with her blunt commentary, leading one Reddit user to quip, “This should be on an Australian tourism commercial.”
It’s unclear whether the incident resulted from a brake check by the white car or simple tailgating by the red Ford, but either way, the result was a scene straight out of a comedy sketch, complete with a bumper bar souvenir. The aftermath left both drivers and onlookers with more questions than answers, but one thing’s for sure: the bumper bar’s loyalty is now in question.
Local online commentators chimed in with their takes, comparing the situation to an episode of Housos or Superwog. Others pointed out that while the physical damage seemed minimal, the rage on display was all too real. One user humorously noted, “He only just tapped him… hard enough to take his bumper bar home with him.”
Hamilton locals are left to reflect on another wild day on Beaumont Street.
