TORONTO, NSW – A swift response from emergency services averted potential disaster on Saturday afternoon as a grass fire broke out on vacant land near the Aldi shopping centre in Toronto. The fire, which was reported just after 1:30pm, led to the evacuation of shoppers and staff as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
Fire and Rescue NSW deployed eight fire trucks and 32 firefighters to the scene on Brighton Avenue, with teams arriving promptly to tackle the flames. The fire was successfully brought under control within 40 minutes, and by 2:15pm, it had been extinguished.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson confirmed that shoppers were evacuated from the Aldi store as a precautionary measure. They told Newy 87.8 the fire was contained before it could reach the shopping centre.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but authorities have confirmed that no injuries were reported. Emergency crews will continue to monitor the area to prevent any flare-ups.
Local residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or signs of fire, particularly given the current dry conditions.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
