Lake Macquarie Police are appealing for public assistance to identify individuals responsible for recent acts of vandalism at Green Point Reserve in Belmont. On Tuesday 6th August and Wednesday 7th August 2024, unregistered trail bikes caused significant damage to the turfed areas of the popular reserve, resulting in a substantial repair bill.
The incidents, which occurred during the afternoons, have prompted concern among the local community. In response, Lake Macquarie Police have released photographs in an effort to identify those involved.
Residents with any information that could assist in identifying the individuals captured in the photographs are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, quoting police report number E97906472. Information can also be provided confidentially via Crime Stoppers’ online reporting page.
The acts of vandalism have sparked a wide range of reactions from the public. While some community members have called for the perpetrators and their families to be held accountable, others have downplayed the damage, suggesting that the grass will recover on its own.
Lake Macquarie Police remind the public that such acts of vandalism not only harm the natural environment but also diminish the enjoyment of public spaces for everyone.
Community Reactions
Despite differing opinions, the majority of the community is calling for accountability and measures to prevent future incidents.
Lake Macquarie Police continue to monitor the situation and encourage residents to report any suspicious activity in local reserves.
