Maitland City Council has successfully completed the latest stage of the Morpeth Shared Pathway project, extending along Morpeth Road and connecting with Steamer Street. This new scenic loop offers enhanced access to the Hunter River, stretching along Queens Wharf Road and creating a seamless pathway for pedestrians.
Funded by the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions program, this development is part of a broader initiative to connect Morpeth with the historic Walka Water Works, blending modern infrastructure with the area’s rich heritage.
The Morpeth Shared Pathway not only provides a picturesque route for walking and cycling but also serves as a key part of Maitland’s efforts to promote outdoor recreation and tourism in the region. This pathway, which includes a 70-meter boardwalk under the historic Morpeth Bridge, is expected to attract both locals and visitors, offering them a peaceful journey through the natural beauty and historical charm of Morpeth.
As the pathway continues to develop, it promises to become a significant drawcard, linking various historical sites and enhancing the town’s appeal as a destination for both history enthusiasts and outdoor lovers.
