Newcastle was painted red today as the Wuthering Heights dance phenomenon arrived in the city. Inspired by Kate Bush’s iconic 1978 hit “Wuthering Heights,” this global event sees participants don red dresses and re-enact the song’s whimsical choreography in public spaces.
The event, which began in 2013 in Brighton, UK, has since become a worldwide sensation, with gatherings held annually in cities across the globe. The Newcastle edition saw hundreds of people, from seasoned dancers to curious first-timers, gathering at Civic Park to join in the fun.
Participants, dressed in flowing red dresses with wild, unkempt hair, channeled the spirit of Kate Bush as they moved in sync to the ethereal tune. The event is as much about celebrating the joy of dance as it is about paying homage to a music legend.
For many, it’s a chance to embrace creativity, connect with others, and enjoy a day of light-hearted fun. The Newcastle Wuthering Heights dance has undoubtedly left its mark, adding a splash of colour and a sense of community to the city’s cultural calendar.
