Mayfield West, NSW – The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) – City of Newcastle Unit celebrated the opening of its new premises at 13 Spit Island Close, Mayfield West. The move from their previous location in Tighes Hill marks a milestone in enhancing emergency response capabilities in the region.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Tim Crakanthorp MP and Deputy Lord Mayor Declan Clausen. In his congratulatory message on Facebook, Tim Crakanthorp MP expressed pride in the volunteers’ dedication, stating, “Congratulations NSW SES – City of Newcastle on your new unit opening! These volunteers are so deserving of the new premises, rescuing and helping our community during emergencies. It was a pleasure to attend alongside Declan Clausen – Deputy Lord Mayor of Newcastle.”
The new facility, praised for its modern design and functionality, provides extensive resources to support the unit’s operations. It features garages for the latest rescue vehicles and boats, ample storage for equipment, dedicated office and administration spaces, an operations room, and kitchen facilities. The move to Mayfield West has been seen as essential, as the former Tighes Hill facilities were no longer adequate for the unit’s needs.
NSW SES Newcastle shared their excitement on Facebook, stating, “It’s official 👏🏽👏🏽, our unit is up and running. Thanks to the City of Newcastle and the NSW State Government we are set up and settled in our new digs! Nothing like a ribbon cutting to celebrate 🎉🎀”
Deputy Lord Mayor Declan Clausen also expressed his support, noting, “Congratulations NSW SES – City of Newcastle and welcome to your new home! Your previous facilities at Tighes Hill were no longer fit for purpose, and the City of Newcastle team worked to invest in these new premises in Mayfield West. Proud to officially open your new facility tonight alongside Tim Crakanthorp MP.”
The new premises will serve as a temporary headquarters while the NSW SES collaborates with the local council to establish a permanent facility. This new base will enable the SES to enhance their emergency response efforts, ensuring they are better equipped to handle future challenges.
As the community celebrates this new chapter, the dedication of the SES volunteers and the support from the local government continue to be the driving forces behind the service’s success in safeguarding the Newcastle region.
