newy.com.au – Teacher Michael Cooper has been named the Liberal candidate for the state seat of Maitland, promising to push for investment in schools, health services and local infrastructure.
Mr Cooper joins Kellie Sloane’s Liberal team. He has lived in Maitland for 30 years and is a head teacher at St Philip’s Christian College.
The announcement of his candidacy also outlined his community work, including leading local youth drop-in services, organising events through his church and helping operate small businesses.
Mr Cooper criticised the Minns Labor Government’s record on support for the growing community.
“Maitland is a fantastic place to live and raise a family, but our growing community has been left behind, and taken for granted by the Minns Labor Government,” he said.
He said household budgets were stretched and small businesses were under increasing pressure, arguing that local infrastructure had not kept pace with the area’s growth.
Mr Cooper said he would speak to residents about Liberal policies including restoring the $250 Regional Seniors Travel Card, expanding telehealth services and cutting payroll tax to support small businesses.
He also pledged to advocate for more investment in Maitland’s schools, health services and infrastructure, although the announcement did not identify specific local projects.
