newy.com.au – Jetstar’s direct Newcastle–Hobart flights return on 27 October 2026 for a season extended by five weeks, adding more than 6,000 seats compared with last season, Newcastle Airport says.

The service will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays until 24 April 2027. The roughly two hour flight gives Hunter travellers a direct route to Tasmania without first travelling to Sydney.

The airport says the season will provide 156 flights and 28,872 seats, up from 122 flights and 22,600 seats last season. That represents an increase of about 28 per cent in both flights and seats.

Flights are scheduled to leave Newcastle at 3.40pm and arrive in Hobart at 5.40pm. Return services depart Hobart at 6.20pm and arrive in Newcastle at 8.15pm. The season covers Christmas, the Sydney to Hobart yacht race and Easter.

Airport chief executive Linc Horton said the connection would also make it easier for Tasmanians to visit Newcastle and the wider Hunter. He said local passengers’ use of direct services helped the airport make its case to airlines.

“The more people across our region choose to fly from Newcastle, the stronger the case we can make to airlines for more destinations, greater frequency and more choice in the future.”

Travellers can check current flight information and parking offers through the airport website. The announcement also directs readers to the airport’s Facebook page, ntlairport.
