newy.com.au – Two Newcastle businesses developing technology for aquaculture and surf rescues are among 22 NSW ventures sharing more than $1 million in state government funding.
Aquacultr Group will advance non-invasive ultrasonic technology aimed at reducing stress in fish, helping improve their health and performance in aquaculture environments such as fish farms.v
Science & Technologies Knowhow will use its funding to develop a remotely operated surf rescue vehicle designed to help save lives.
The grants have been awarded through the second round of the 2025-26 Minimum Viable Product Ventures Program, which supports start-ups and small businesses as they move from prototypes towards commercialisation.
Other recipients across NSW are working on projects including modular and low-cost housing for regional communities, clean energy and wastewater technologies, and advanced manufacturing systems intended to improve safety and productivity.
The state government said the funding was designed to help businesses attract investment, create jobs and turn locally developed ideas into economic growth.
Member for Newcastle Tim Crakanthorp welcomed the support for the two local recipients.
“Newcastle is a hub of innovation, I am so pleased to see more local businesses and projects receiving a much-needed and well-deserved boost from the NSW Government,” Mr Crakanthorp said.
“From underwater ecosystem health to surf lifesaving, the two Newcastle-based recipients demonstrate innovative technologies and ideas to better our environment and community.”
Applications for the third round of the 2025-26 program are being assessed, with successful recipients expected to be announced later this year.
