A late-night cooking accident is believed to be the cause of an intense blaze that gutted a single-level unit on Thursday night, sparking a significant emergency response. Fire and Rescue NSW crews were alerted to the incident around 11pm following multiple triple-zero calls, arriving to find the property fully ablaze. Six fire trucks and 25 firefighters were dispatched to the scene to battle the inferno.

The occupant had fortunately evacuated the building before firefighters arrived and was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics. Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson Inspector Chris Forster stated that crews immediately began firefighting operations as other agencies, including NSW Police, Ausgrid, and the gas authority, arrived to assist at the scene.

Firefighters remained on-site following the fire due to what Forster described as a heavy fuel load inside the unit. Crews were forced to monitor conditions closely while assessing the structural stability of the building, specifically managing the risk that the roof could cave in.

While Fire and Rescue NSW had not officially determined the cause while on the scene, NSW Police believe the fire was sparked by a cooking accident and they are currently not treating the incident as suspicious. A neighbouring unit escaped the flames but did sustain a small amount of smoke damage. Both occupants have since been re-housed by Housing NSW.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are expected to continue as Fire and Rescue NSW work to finalise their assessments of the property.
