Two arrested as police run high-visibility patrols in Hamilton South

newy.com.au – Police from Newcastle City Police District conducted high-visibility patrols in Hamilton South on Thursday 5 February 2026, arresting two men and issuing a traffic infringement and defect notice.

Police said officers spoke with local business owners and residents during the morning patrols to hear concerns and provide information about police activity in the area.

A 29-year-old man was arrested and taken to Newcastle Police Station, where police allege a knife was located and seized during a search. He was charged with custody of knife in public place and breach of bail, refused bail, and was due to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Thursday 5 February 2026.

A 30-year-old man was also arrested and taken to the station, charged with eight counts of shoplifting and four counts of enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse. He was issued a court attendance notice to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 19 March 2026.

Police said an infringement was issued for stand unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road, and a defect notice was also issued as part of the operation.

Police said similar operations would continue in the area.
