newy.com.au – A 77-year-old Ryde man is due in court today after police alleged he produced a firearm during a road-rage incident in Newcastle on Monday 2 February 2026.

NSW Police said the incident followed a minor collision on Stockton Bridge, with the matter later reported at a local police station and prompting inquiries by officers in both Newcastle and Sydney.

Police said the crash happened about 11.50am and caused damage to both vehicles.

The drivers stopped on Teal Street at Kooragang and began arguing, police said.

Officers will allege one of the men threatened the other with a firearm before both drivers left the area in their vehicles.

Police said a 56-year-old man later attended Waratah Police Station to report what had happened.

After what police described as extensive inquiries by Newcastle City Police District and Ryde Police Area Command, officers attended a home on Hamilton Crescent at Ryde about 5pm on Monday.

Police arrested the 77-year-old man and seized a pistol before taking him to Gladesville Police Station.

He was charged with being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, and stalk or intimidate with intent to cause fear of physical or mental harm.

Police said he was refused bail and is listed to appear before Burwood Local Court on Tuesday 3 February 2026, and has also been issued with a firearm suspension notice.
