newy.com.au – A 25-year-old man has been charged and refused bail over two alleged armed robberies at businesses on William Street in Raymond Terrace, police say.
Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District began investigating after a reported robbery in late December, before another alleged hold-up was reported at a nearby business this week.
Police allege that about 6.40pm on Tuesday 23 December 2025, two men entered a business on William Street and threatened an employee while demanding cash. One of the men allegedly assaulted the 23-year-old employee with a metal pole before the pair left with cigarettes and an amount of cash.
The employee was not injured, police said, and a crime scene was established as investigators examined the business.
A second alleged robbery was reported about 8am on Thursday 15 January 2026, when police were called to a business on William Street. Officers were told two men entered the store and allegedly stole packets of cigarettes and an amount of cash before leaving in a black sedan.
Police established another crime scene and continued inquiries into the incident, before making an arrest later that day. About 3pm on Thursday, officers arrested a 25-year-old man on Campbell Drive, Raymond Terrace, and took him to Raymond Terrace Police Station.
Police said the man was charged with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon and robbery in company. He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 2 on Friday 16 January 2026.
Inquiries into the incidents are continuing.
