newy.com.au – With students returning to school for 2025, Port Stephens Council rangers are hitting the pavement throughout February to promote safety in school zones. The initiative aims to educate parents, caregivers, and staff on the best practices for safe driving and parking near schools.
Senior Ranger Lisa Lovegrove emphasised that the campaign is about ensuring children can travel to and from school without unnecessary risks.
“Our rangers are available to answer any questions about legal and safe parking during school drop-off and pick-up times. We want to make sure everyone understands the reasons behind these parking rules,” Ms Lovegrove said.
Information flyers are also being distributed to reinforce good parking habits. Ms Lovegrove highlighted the dangers of parking in prohibited areas, explaining that obstructed driver visibility can lead to hazardous situations for young pedestrians.
Council is urging all drivers to be extra vigilant in school zones—obeying speed limits, paying attention to signage, and adhering to the rules designed to keep children safe.
“It’s all about making sure our kids aren’t put at risk and that everyone gets to and from school safely,” Ms Lovegrove said.
