newy.com.au – Three community projects in the Cessnock Electorate have received funding through the Anzac Community Grants Program (ACGP), part of a statewide initiative that has distributed over $124,000 to 99 projects commemorating veterans. The funding supports schools, community groups, and ex-service organisations in honouring the service and sacrifices of Australia’s military personnel.
This year’s program saw a record number of applications, with 116 submissions from across New South Wales. Grants of up to $3,000 were awarded to eligible projects, benefitting 34 schools, 20 RSL sub-branches, and 15 councils.
In the Cessnock Electorate, three local initiatives have received funding:
State Member for Cessnock, Clayton Barr, welcomed the funding, emphasising the importance of local projects in honouring servicemen and servicewomen.
“It is heartening to see our schools and community groups dedicated to preserving the legacy of our veterans,” Mr Barr said. “These grants will ensure we continue to honour those who have sacrificed so much for our country.”
Minister for Veterans, David Harris, reinforced the NSW Government’s commitment to supporting projects that educate future generations and enhance the wellbeing of veterans.
“The Anzac Community Grants Program funds initiatives that not only acknowledge Australia’s military service history but also play a crucial role in community education and engagement,” Mr Harris said.
This funding round saw applications from 99 suburbs across 59 Local Government Areas and 57 State Electorates, highlighting the widespread interest in preserving and commemorating Australia’s military history.
