newy.com.au – A 35-year-old woman has been charged with drug supply and dangerous driving after an alleged pursuit at Abermain that began while police were trying to stop an unregistered motorbike.
Police say a search of the Toyota sedan she was driving uncovered 19.88 grams of methamphetamine, 0.9 grams of MDMA and a folding knife. She was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 on Wednesday, 16 September.
Hunter Valley Highway Patrol officers were attempting to stop the motorbike on Charles Street about 2pm on Tuesday when the Toyota allegedly crossed their path and drove away at speed.
Police allege the driver failed to stop when directed, prompting a pursuit that continued to William Street. The woman drove onto an unsealed section of the road and stopped, before officers arrested her.
Police allege the woman was driving while her licence was suspended. They said a roadside drug test returned a positive result for methamphetamine, and a second oral fluid sample was taken for further analysis.
After searching the car and seizing the drugs and knife, officers took the woman to Cessnock Police Station, where she was charged with nine offences.
The charges include supplying a prohibited drug, three counts of possessing a prohibited drug, driving while suspended and reckless or dangerous driving. She was also charged with exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h, failing to stop at a stop line at an intersection and custody of a knife in a public place.
Police are continuing inquiries to locate the motorbike and its rider.
