newy.com.au – Two 16-year-old boys have been arrested as police investigate alleged thefts from vehicles at Corlette and Salamander Bay.

A vehicle parked in the driveway of a home in The Peninsula, Corlette, was allegedly broken into on Sunday, 26 July, with a laptop stolen from inside. The following day, a man’s wallet was stolen from a Mitsubishi station wagon parked in Scott Circuit, Salamander Bay.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 16-year-old boy at Soldiers Point on Monday in connection with the Corlette incident. A second 16-year-old boy was arrested at a fast-food restaurant in Salamander Bay about 2.05pm on Tuesday and taken to Nelson Bay Police Station.

Both boys were dealt with under the Young Offenders Act. Police said investigations were continuing and further arrests were anticipated.

Port Stephens-Hunter Police District Inspector David Donovan urged residents to lock vehicles parked overnight and remove valuables to reduce the risk of theft.

“Leaving vehicles unlocked in the driveway of your house – or on the street – is like an open invitation to any would-be thieves.

“The same goes for leaving valuables in your vehicle – lock it or lose it,” Insp Donovan said.
