newy.com.au – A 13-year-old boy has been charged with eight offences following an alleged break-in at Telarah and three attempted break-ins at Avoca Beach last week.

Police were called to four properties between 3.50am and 4.15am on Saturday, 18 July, after receiving reports of break and enters.

At a Wentworth Street home in Telarah, an unknown number of people allegedly entered the house, took two sets of car keys and left in a white Suzuki sedan belonging to the occupants.

During the same period, attempts were allegedly made to enter three homes on Avoca Drive, The Round Avenue and The Round Drive at Avoca Beach. Police said those attempts were unsuccessful.

Officers from Oxley Police District were called to a Bridge Street petrol station in Tamworth about 5am on Tuesday, 21 July, following a report that fuel had not been paid for by occupants of the allegedly stolen sedan.

Police, assisted by the Western Region Operations Support Group, attended a Westdale property about 8.30am and found the vehicle.

The boy was arrested at the property and taken to Tamworth Police Station, where he was charged with three counts of being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence and two counts of aggravated break and enter and committing a serious indictable offence while people were present.

He was also charged with break and enter and steal property valued at no more than $60,000, being carried in a conveyance taken without the owner’s consent, and dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception.

The teenager was refused bail and appeared before a children’s court on Wednesday, 22 July, where he was again refused bail. He is due to return to court on Wednesday, 29 July.

Brisbane Water Police District crime manager Detective Inspector Matthew Stingmore said “this arrest is the result of great work conducted by Brisbane Water Police District, Port Stephens/Hunter Police District, Oxley Police District and both Western and Northern Region Operation Support Groups.”
